Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has commented on the difficulties faced by foreign workers seeking permanent residency in the United States, linking the issue to the labor certification process used in green card applications.
According to the report, the US labor certification programme is meant to support foreign employees in obtaining permanent residency. However, US Department of Labor officials have taken action against major IT firms including Infosys, Wipro, TCS and HCL over allegations of irregularities in the process.
In this backdrop, Vembu argued that circumstances are effectively asking people to give up what he described as a “false American dream.” He said India can provide a viable life and future.
He also appealed to the idea of returning to one’s roots, noting that the places where grandparents, parents and relatives lived are also places where the current generation can build their lives.
The remarks come amid renewed attention on immigration pathways and compliance scrutiny in the US employment-based system.
