New Delhi: The results of a Tamil Nadu Assembly by-election have drawn close attention in Delhi’s political circles, after the TVK’s win pushed Dravidian parties—especially the AIADMK—down to third place, according to reports.
The development has reinforced the view that cinema and politics remain deeply intertwined in Tamil Nadu. National parties such as the Congress and the BJP are said to see this overlap as an opportunity to weaken the dominance of the two major Dravidian parties.
Against this backdrop, actors Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan are said to be interested in entering politics and have begun taking steps in that direction. BJP leaders in Delhi are reportedly welcoming the possibility.
Meanwhile, a DMK MP is said to have sent a WhatsApp message to contacts in national parties, claiming that internal issues have begun within the DMK after an electoral setback and suggesting that actors may lead Tamil Nadu’s politics going forward.
