A Delhi court on Saturday released three office-bearers of the so-called ‘Cockroach Party’ who were arrested a day earlier, imposing a condition that they must not disturb public peace for one year.
The arrests came as the group attempted to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police dispersed the party workers who had gathered for the demonstration.
According to the report, party leader Abhijeet Dipke and two associates travelling from Mumbai were detained by Delhi Police while still on board their flight. Across the capital, around 25,000 police personnel were deployed for security.
Police also reportedly rounded up and detained more than 5,000 people heading towards Jantar Mantar, which led to the protest losing momentum. The three arrested leaders were produced before the court on October 11 and were subsequently released under the peace-related condition.
