A long-time Dinamalar reader from Puducherry has said the accident insurance cover provided through the newspaper’s annual subscription came as timely support during a medical emergency.

Ramakrishnan (59), a farmer from Manamedu in Bahour Commune, said he has been reading Dinamalar for about 15 years and follows its coverage of public issues, especially the “Aanmeega Malar” section.

He said that on July 17, while riding his bike near the Manamedu bridge, he slipped and fell due to rain, suffering a fracture in his right leg. He was admitted to East Coast Hospital in Moolakulam, Puducherry, where surgery was performed and a plate was fitted, costing up to Rs 1.30 lakh. He said he had to borrow money to meet the expenses.

Ramakrishnan said he had enrolled in the insurance scheme by paying Rs 2,499 for the Dinamalar annual subscription on May 1 through a local agent, Arun. After contacting Dinamalar staff for guidance, he submitted medical documents to United India Insurance. He said the insurer verified the papers and paid Rs 98,150 within a week, which he described as a major relief as he has been unable to work for the past three months. He thanked the newspaper’s management for the support.
