Minister Nirmal Kumar on Saturday alleged that flaws in the SIR work impacted votes and altered the electoral outcome, claiming his party would have secured more than 170–180 seats otherwise.

Speaking to reporters in Madurai, he said the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam was the first to point out that mistakes had occurred during the SIR process. He added that the party has been protesting against the SIR work from the beginning.

According to the minister, the alleged errors in the SIR work were the reason “so many votes” were affected. He further claimed that the DMK’s level of success was possible only because of the SIR work.

He also alleged that irregularities in the voter list were widely known, and asserted that without such issues the DMK would not have been able to win even 20 constituencies.
