New Delhi witnessed a fresh legal challenge after the Delhi government imposed multiple restrictions to prevent a protest called by a group opposing the Election Commissioner.

As part of the measures, several metro stations were shut, public access was blocked on key roads, and internet services were suspended. The Supreme Court had earlier directed that metro stations be opened in a way that would not inconvenience the public.

However, the Delhi government did not implement the direction, citing protesters allegedly attempting to breach restrictions. Following this, advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court challenging the curbs.

Separately, Trinamool Congress MP and senior advocate Menaka Guruswamy moved a petition opposing the arrests of political leaders. A special bench comprising Justices Jaymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana will hear both matters on Sunday, a day that is typically a court holiday.
