An IndiGo flight operating from Delhi to Chennai was forced to make an emergency landing in Hyderabad on Saturday after a fire was reported while the aircraft was in the air.
According to available details, the flight departed Delhi at around 1.30 pm and was scheduled to arrive at Chennai airport by about 4 pm. However, the aircraft diverted and landed in Hyderabad as a precaution.
The fire reportedly started in the area where passengers’ belongings are kept. Cabin crew used onboard fire extinguishers to douse the flames promptly.
Officials have not yet released information on the exact cause of the incident or whether anyone was injured. There is suspicion that a power bank kept in a passenger’s bag may have triggered the fire, and an inquiry is under way.
