The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the northeast monsoon is likely to set in over south India within the next three days.
In its update, the IMD noted that conditions are favourable for the onset from October 15. It also indicated that the southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw over the next two to three days.
With the seasonal transition, Tamil Nadu may see heavy rainfall for four days starting October 15, the IMD said.
The department also pointed to an atmospheric circulation near the south Andaman Sea, which could lead to the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal on October 13.
For October 12, moderate rain was forecast in Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari. For October 13, moderate rain was indicated for Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.
