President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar as the full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu, according to an order issued in New Delhi.

R.N. Ravi, who had been serving as Tamil Nadu Governor, was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal in March. Following that, Arlekar—then Kerala Governor—was given additional charge of Tamil Nadu.

The latest order relieves Arlekar of his responsibilities as Kerala Governor and names him as Tamil Nadu’s full-time Governor. The order will take effect from the date the new Governors assume office.

Along with this, new Governors have been appointed for five states—Kerala, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Odisha and Sikkim. Om Prakash Mathur has been named Kerala Governor; Dr Sudha Yadav for Karnataka; Braj Mohan Ram for Odisha; Dr Dal Singh Bisen for Uttarakhand; and Dushyant Gautam for Sikkim.

Dr Sudha Yadav, a former BJP MP, is set to become Karnataka’s second woman Governor. Dr Dal Singh Bisen is also a former BJP MP, while Braj Mohan Ram is a former MP from Jharkhand’s Palamu constituency. Dushyant Gautam has served as BJP national general secretary and is a former Rajya Sabha MP.
