Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, who travelled to Andhra Pradesh to hold discussions on Krishna water and river-linking, offered prayers at the Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada on Tuesday.
The visit comes amid Tamil Nadu’s demand that Andhra Pradesh release 11 TMC of Krishna water every year from the Kandaleru reservoir. The report said the release is not being made regularly, even as Tamil Nadu pays about Rs 100 crore annually to Andhra Pradesh’s water resources department as Krishna canal maintenance charges.
Vijay is scheduled to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in person to press for the timely release of water and to raise the river-linking project. He reached Vijayawada’s Gannavaram airport in a special flight along with Water Resources Minister Anand, Chief Secretary Saikumar and Water Resources Secretary Prashanth Vadanere, among others.
At the Kanaka Durga Temple, he was received with traditional honours amid temple music, and devotees gathered to see him. The temple is located atop Indrakeeladri hill on the banks of the Krishna river.
After the temple visit, the Chief Minister is also set to meet Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and is expected to return to Chennai by 8 pm.
