Delhi Police have registered FIRs against leaders of the INDI alliance, alleging that they held a protest march in the national capital without permission and damaged barricades put up by police.
According to the report, the march was held demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and calling for the withdrawal of the SIR procedure. Leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee and Tejashwi Yadav were among those who took part.
Police said the rally did not have the required authorisation. Barricades were placed to stop the protesters, but the group allegedly removed them and moved forward.
After the protest concluded, police booked the participants on allegations of conducting an unauthorised march and breaking road barricades using lorries. The FIRs were registered at the Barakhamba Road and Tilak Marg police stations.
The report also noted that, at the end of the march, INDI alliance leaders jointly filed a petition in the Supreme Court, where the court reportedly pointed out 14 defects in the filing.
