Hindu Munnani has alleged that police action has been “unilateral” and targeted, following arrests linked to recent protests, according to a statement issued by its state president Kadeswara Subramaniam in Tiruppur.

He said the organisation held demonstrations across districts urging authorities to facilitate the lighting of a lamp at the Deepa Thoon in Tirupparankundram, in line with a High Court order. During these protests, police arrested office-bearers who spoke at four locations, he claimed.

The statement also referred to a protest held in Chennai on October 4 at 19 locations, taking into account events involving the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister in the city. He criticised the police for registering cases in haste and arresting four persons.

He further alleged that despite complaints about individuals who, he said, spoke in a derogatory manner about the country and Hindu beliefs, police did not take action. Questioning the purpose of filing cases at midnight and making early-morning arrests against protest speakers, he called on the Chief Minister to ensure the release of those arrested and withdrawal of the cases.
