Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will travel to Andhra Pradesh on Monday to hold talks on Krishna water sharing and river-linking proposals. The visit comes amid concerns that the agreed quantum of water is not being released regularly to Tamil Nadu.
According to the arrangement, the Andhra Pradesh government is expected to supply 11 TMC of Krishna water every year from the Kandaleru reservoir to Tamil Nadu. However, the release is said to be inconsistent, even as Tamil Nadu pays an annual canal maintenance charge of Rs 100 crore to Andhra Pradesh’s water resources department.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at 4.15 pm in Vijayawada, where he is expected to urge timely and regular release of water and raise the river interlinking plan. Water Resources Minister Anand, Chief Secretary Saikumar and Water Resources Secretary Prashanth Vadanere are among the officials accompanying him on a special flight to Gannavaram airport.
After the meeting, Vijay will visit the Kanaka Durga Amman temple in Vijayawada for prayers at 6.00 pm, and later meet Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. He is expected to return to Chennai by 8.00 pm.
Separately, the Chief Minister is slated to visit Coimbatore district on October 16 to inaugurate a library building completed at a cost of Rs 300 crore and interact with students.
