The Madras High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to transfer the POCSO cases against granite businessman Veeramani to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Veeramani, along with his associate Shanthi and five others, has been arrested on allegations of sexually assaulting minor girls. The cases are currently being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
When the matter came up, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Dharmadhikari and Justice Arulmurgan questioned the need for a CBI probe, pointing out that an SIT had already been constituted to investigate the case.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the SIT was formed only after the petition was filed. As the petitioner expressed willingness to withdraw the plea, the court dismissed the case.
