Union Minister of State L Murugan has resigned from his post, amid reports that the Union Cabinet may be reshuffled soon.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Murugan said serving under his leadership for India and Tamil Nadu had been the greatest honour of his life. He also spoke about his background, saying he did not come from a political family and that his parents, who worked as daily-wage labourers and cattle herders, continue to live a simple life in Konur village.
Murugan recalled the responsibilities he had been given over the years, including serving as Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and being nominated twice to the Rajya Sabha. He said his work across ministries such as Information and Broadcasting, Parliamentary Affairs, Fisheries, and Animal Husbandry broadened his understanding of the country and its people.
Stating that he now wants to devote himself fully to public work in Tamil Nadu, Murugan requested to be relieved from the ministerial role and sought permission to resign as a Rajya Sabha MP. He said he intends to travel across villages and streets, meet people and party workers, expand the BJP’s presence across the state, and dedicate his time and energy to preparing for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
