Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has lodged a police complaint alleging that a woman attempted to enter the Kolkata residence of party chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee carrying a knife.

According to the party’s account, the woman, identified as Tannishta Saha, tried to trespass into the premises on Tuesday evening. Security personnel stopped her, after which she reportedly argued with them, shouted that she was a relative of Banerjee, used abusive language and created a commotion by lying down on the road.

In its complaint, the TMC said Banerjee, who has served three terms as Chief Minister, is provided Z-plus security. The party questioned how a woman allegedly in an intoxicated state and carrying a knife could reach the residence despite such protection.

The TMC also sought an inquiry into whether security arrangements were relaxed and raised suspicion of a possible conspiracy, citing Banerjee’s active opposition to the BJP in Delhi.

The complaint has asked police to investigate the incident and clarify how the breach occurred.
