Bangladesh’s former interim chief adviser and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus faced a tense reception after arriving at a New York airport, as a group of Bangladeshi people staged a protest outside the terminal.

Protesters alleged that the interim administration led by Yunus was responsible for political turmoil following the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. They also accused the interim setup of contributing to violence, a breakdown of law and order, and incidents in which police personnel were killed.

As Yunus attempted to exit the terminal, demonstrators surrounded the area and raised sharp slogans, calling him a “terrorist,” accusing him of destroying Bangladesh’s democracy, and demanding that he leave.

Security personnel intervened quickly and escorted Yunus back inside the terminal to ensure his safety.
