Residents in Delhi have voiced anger over repeated political protests at Jantar Mantar, saying the gatherings are creating major inconvenience for the public. The area, a prominent part of the capital, often sees demonstrations by opposition parties.
According to locals, traffic is severely affected during such protests, turning short commutes into hours-long delays. They said many people are unable to reach work on time, while the elderly and patients face particular hardship.
The report said the Centre imposed restrictions on holding protests at Jantar Mantar after receiving numerous complaints, and alternative locations were allotted. However, protesters have continued to insist on returning to the same venue.
In the latest incident, two leaders—identified as Asutosh Ranga and Das—were arrested for allegedly defying the ban and were sent to Tihar jail. Residents also questioned the rationale for continuing protests even after the Election Commission’s clarification on voter list deletions and re-registration, and noted that police had suggested three alternative sites away from Parliament.
