India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said concerns are increasing over anti-India hate in the United States, following reports of a foiled attack plot targeting a Hindu temple in Illinois.

According to the MEA, police disrupted an alleged conspiracy to open fire at a Hindu temple in Aurora, a suburb of Chicago. The development has triggered alarm, the ministry said.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said violence against people of Indian origin, along with Hinduphobia and racism, remains a matter of serious concern. He noted that US authorities have arrested a suspect, placed the person in custody and filed charges.

The incident, he added, reinforces growing worries about racist trends and anti-India hatred in the US. Jaiswal called for heightened vigilance and firm steps to curb intolerance and ensure the safety of the Indian community.
