A new landmark, the ‘Periyar World of Knowledge’, has been built in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore, by the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department at a cost of Rs 300 crore. Chief Minister Vijay is set to inaugurate the facility on October 16 at 11 am and tour the premises.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to arrive from Chennai by flight and travel to the venue via Avinashi Road–LIC–Park Gate, turning right onto Nanjappa Road. A 10-km roadshow has been arranged, with barricades and public viewing arrangements along both sides of the route.

At the science centre, government and corporation school students will explain how various exhibits function. During the visit, the Chief Minister is also expected to launch completed projects, lay foundation stones for new works, and distribute welfare assistance to beneficiaries.

The project was announced in the 2024–25 Tamil Nadu Budget and built on 6.98 acres of land belonging to the prison department. The structure spans about 1.98 lakh sq ft, with a ground floor and seven floors, and is designed to resemble a stacked book.

The facility includes sections such as an auditorium, planetarium, science exhibition hall, children’s library, competitive exam library, Tamil and English book divisions, incubation centres, a digital library, and a science centre. Visitors can also experience interactive attractions including a question-answering robot, an AR-based Kalam interaction, solar-system displays, an “upside-down” reading room, a moving T-Rex model, and other hands-on science installations with explanations in Tamil and English.
