The Congress-led INDIA alliance has paused its ongoing protests in Delhi against the Chief Election Commissioner and the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, triggering discontent among several partner parties.

According to the report, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, who attended a recent tea meeting at Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi’s residence, suggested that alliance parties could coordinate the agitation on a “one party per day” basis. Leaders from Left parties were said to have backed the idea.

However, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reportedly asked for the protest to be temporarily halted. They also indicated that the alliance could decide the next phase after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict in the case filed by the INDIA bloc, leading to the postponement.

Tamil Nadu Congress functionaries were quoted as saying that alliance leaders felt the demonstrations held on the 6th and 7th near Akashvani Bhavan in Delhi—featuring Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi—appeared centred mainly around them. They also said partners believed they should have been informed in advance.

The report added that parties such as Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Left parties, Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party had expressed support for the agitation. Amid the confusion and with festivals approaching, Congress has kept the protest on hold for now.
