New Delhi: Elon Musk has been pressing to roll out Starlink’s satellite internet service in India, and recently alleged that the launch was being delayed due to the dominance of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance.

The Union government rejected the charge, stressing that protecting Indians’ data is a priority and that businesses can operate in India only if they comply with Indian laws.

After staying silent on the issue, Reliance has now released a statement seen as an indirect response to Musk. The company said it welcomes investment and innovation in the Indian market, but the law applies equally to local and foreign firms.

Reliance highlighted that Jio entered the market in 2016 without any customers and, within a decade, earned the trust of 530 million users while offering quality data services at among the lowest prices globally.

It added that approvals for Jio’s own satellite services are still pending and said the sector does not belong to any individual. Reliance said it welcomes competition, but insisted that Starlink and all operators must adhere to required security protocols before starting commercial operations.
