A new library and science centre named Periyar Arivulagam has been built at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore at a cost of Rs 301.71 crore, comprising a ground floor and seven additional floors. Chief Minister Vijay arrived from Chennai by flight to inaugurate the facility.
After receiving a police honour, the Chief Minister unveiled a statue of Periyar and later opened the inaugural plaque on the first floor. He then toured sections housing science equipment and asked officials and students about the exhibits.
Government school students explained how the science devices function. The Chief Minister also visited the children’s section, sat with the children, introduced himself as Vijay, and asked their names before leaving.
In another room, a robot greeted him, and he responded in return. After completing the visit, he signed the register in English as “C. Joseph Vijay” with the date 16.10.2026, and wrote the message: “Know more; fear less.”
