Minister Arun Raj inspected the Government Medical College Hospital in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, and spoke to reporters on Thursday.
He said the issuance of appointment orders for vacant Nursing Assistant posts has been delayed due to a court stay, adding that steps are being taken to resolve the matter legally.
On private medical colleges, the minister reiterated that institutions should not collect fees above the government-fixed amount for seats under the government quota. He also said allegations that medical waste in Kanyakumari district is being buried within campus premises instead of being sent for recycling will be examined and appropriate action taken.
Providing a health update, Arun Raj said Kolathur TVK MLA Babu, who is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, is showing day-by-day improvement and is expected to return home in good health soon.
He further said that, in response to demands to regularise temporary nurses, a government order to regularise 2,500 nurses in the first phase is expected to be issued within two to three weeks.
