Security forces detected the movement of a suspicious four-member group near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
When personnel moved to surround the group, it was identified as terrorists, triggering a heavy exchange of gunfire between the two sides.
The forces said the group was attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory. In the encounter, two terrorists were shot dead.
The status of the remaining two members is not yet known. A search operation is under way, and surveillance along the border has been intensified.
