The Union government has increased the export duty on petrol from 50 paise to Rs 2.50 per litre for the next two weeks, citing volatility in the international energy market.
At the same time, export duty on diesel has been reduced from Rs 16 per litre to Rs 8.50. The road and infrastructure cess on both fuels continues at zero.
Export duty on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) remains unchanged at Rs 10.50 per litre. The revised duty rates take effect from October 16.
Export duties on petrol and diesel were first imposed from March 27 to ensure adequate domestic availability and to curb exports amid tensions in West Asia. The government reviews these duties every fortnight based on global crude oil prices.
There has been no change in excise duty on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption.
