Actor Rajinikanth has shared an emotional video message mourning the sudden demise of music composer Deva. In the 2.45-minute clip, he said the news came as a shock and left him deeply pained.
Rajinikanth recalled that Deva composed for three of his films—Annamalai, Baashha and Arunachalam—all of which became major successes. He also spoke about the period when Padayappa was being planned, when many around him suggested A.R. Rahman for the music.
According to Rajinikanth, when he informed Deva that the film would go with Rahman, Deva responded with warmth, held his hand and encouraged him to proceed without hesitation. Rajinikanth said Deva insisted there was no room for misunderstanding and called it a privilege to have worked on three films with him.
Describing Deva as a man without deceit, Rajinikanth spoke about the composer’s difficult early life and his responsibility as the eldest among five brothers, performing at street events and weddings to support the family. He added that even after becoming a leading composer, Deva continued to stand by his brothers and remained a devoted family man.
Rajinikanth noted that Deva carved out his own style during a time when Ilaiyaraaja dominated the industry, and later began doing music concerts, including overseas tours. He said Deva had recently told him he felt happy that the younger generation was welcoming him, before Rajinikanth concluded with prayers for Deva’s soul and condolences to his family.
