Ottawa: A massive fire has been reported at Canada’s largest military base in Alberta province, where about 690 soldiers and 300 officers are stationed.

The facility, which served as a training camp for Canadian troops during the Korean War in the 1950s, caught fire suddenly on Saturday. Authorities said several soldiers died and many others were injured, but the exact number of fatalities has not been disclosed.

Reports indicate the blaze began in the training area and later spread to other sections of the base.

The Royal Canadian Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed condolences in a post on X, saying brave soldiers and servicewomen were affected. He added that his office is in touch with the Alberta provincial government and is closely monitoring the situation.
