Chennai: Minister Keerthana, in a statement, launched a sharp attack on the DMK, alleging that its leaders and functionaries used obscene and uncivil language on a public stage and spoke in a derogatory manner about women.

She said the people of Tamil Nadu had “taught a lesson” by delivering defeat in a by-election to those who, she claimed, lacked basic stage decorum. According to her, the Chennai public meeting reflected what she described as a habitual pattern of crude speech within the DMK’s women’s wing.

The minister further alleged that a DMK women’s wing member insulted the democratically elected Chief Minister from the stage. She claimed Chennai Mayor Priya, who was seated nearby, reacted with laughter, and said DMK women’s wing secretary and MP Kanimozhi did not register even a mild objection.

Questioning what she called the party’s political culture, Keerthana said that dignity and responsibility in public life mattered more than merely appearing on political platforms. She asked whether Kanimozhi and Mayor Priya would condemn the remarks or remain silent.

Keerthana said the public was closely watching such speech and asserted that in future elections too, voters would respond by handing “defeat” to what she termed an uncivil DMK.
