Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the family of Vikramjeet Singh in New Delhi and offered condolences. Singh had died after raising his voice against drug smuggling in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.
In a statement shared by Shah, he said he personally conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed that they receive the strength to endure the loss.
Shah alleged that drug trafficking has flourished under the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, and said the growing spread of narcotics and the boldness of smugglers raise serious questions about the administration’s functioning.
He further claimed that under the Bhagwant Mann-led government, Punjab’s youth are increasingly falling into addiction, while those who speak out against the menace are left in an unsafe environment.
Shah said the Centre remains committed to making Punjab and the entire country drug-free and to safeguarding the future of young people.
