A rare first-class milestone was achieved in the Ranji Trophy match between Nagaland and Mizoram at Sovima in Nagaland.
Mizoram batter Chinmay Sudar (29) struck 400 runs from 517 deliveries, an innings that included 45 fours and seven sixes.
The last comparable landmark in first-class cricket dates back to 1948-49, when Maharashtra’s B.B. Bimalkar made 443 against Kathiawar. For 78 years after that, no player had crossed the 400-run mark in the format.
Sudar’s knock placed him 10th on the global list of players with 400-plus scores in first-class cricket. After he went past 400, Mizoram declared their innings at 581.
Sudar is the son of Rajesh Sudar, a spinner who played for Mumbai and featured alongside Sachin Tendulkar. Chinmay Sudar has also represented India in an under-23 tournament held in Bangladesh.
