A special court in Delhi has pulled up attempts to produce allegedly fake sureties during proceedings involving two men linked to the so-called “Cockroach gang”. The court said the sureties who appeared with bail papers raised serious doubts during scrutiny.
According to the case details placed before the court, Saurav Das and Asutosh Ranga were arrested for staging a protest in prohibited areas of the national capital, allegedly disturbing public peace. After their judicial custody period ended, they were produced before the special court.
The court extended their custody until October 21. During the hearing, new sureties appeared in support of the accused, prompting the prosecution side to seek an inquiry into their credentials.
The judge questioned the sureties and found that documents submitted along with the bail bond were not genuine, leading to rejection of the petitions. The court noted clear discrepancies between the photograph on the bail bond and the photograph on the Aadhaar card produced.
In another instance, one surety reportedly could not provide even basic details about Saurav Das, including family and address particulars. The court directed that fresh sureties be produced, and the matter is scheduled to be heard again on October 21.
