New Delhi: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has rejected a resolution adopted by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as biased, one-sided and detached from facts.
The resolution was passed at the OIC foreign ministers’ meeting held recently in Baghdad, Iraq. Among other points, it called on India to reverse what it termed a unilateral move to revoke Article 370.
In its statement, the MEA said the text reflected a “malicious intent” and alleged that Pakistan had deliberately shaped the outcome to serve narrow and partisan objectives. It added that allowing the OIC to be used in this manner was disappointing.
India reiterated that the OIC has no right to comment on its internal affairs and asserted that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country. The MEA said political propaganda cannot alter this reality.
The statement also said that after the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir has seen improvements in infrastructure and notable economic progress, including in tourism and transport connectivity, with benefits reaching people directly. It contrasted this with allegations of violence and repression against civilians in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and accused Pakistan of raising charges against India to divert attention from persecution of minorities and religious violence at home.
