India’s free trade agreement with New Zealand, signed in December, will come into force on Monday, Union minister Piyush Goyal said.
In a statement, Goyal said New Zealand’s commitment to facilitate $20 billion in investment in India is expected to strengthen infrastructure, manufacturing, services and innovation, while also expanding employment opportunities.
He added that farmers producing fruits, vegetables, grains and other agricultural goods would gain access to a larger market. Under agricultural cooperation, skill development centres will be set up.
The Centre will work with state governments to explain the opportunities available under the agreement to farmers, entrepreneurs and traders, he said. Speaking to reporters earlier, Goyal also noted that goods exported from India to New Zealand will be exempt from duties from Monday.
