A case relating to temple land in Tamil Nadu has reached the Supreme Court, following objections to a donation made to the state government.

The land—measuring about 1 acre and 10 cents—belongs to the Nagapalayam Mariamman–Ponnachiyamman temple near Kodumudi in Erode district. According to the report, a temporary trustee donated the property to the government in 2019.

After the donation, a taluk office was constructed on the site. The move was later challenged, leading to a petition being filed before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court heard the matter, which centres on the legality of the donation and the subsequent use of the temple’s land for a government building.
