Remarks in Coimbatore
We The Leaders organisation president Annamalai said it has become a routine in Tamil Nadu for “anti-social elements” to align themselves with whichever party comes to power. Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, he alleged this trend discourages local police from taking action against such individuals.
Education and language policy concerns
Annamalai claimed the number of students moving to Plus One and Plus Two has fallen—by 9% among boys and 6% among girls. He also said the share of students entering higher education has dropped from 50% to 47%.
He further said CBSE schools face difficulties because the Union government has not permitted foreign languages such as German and French. He argued that restrictions—whether by the Union government on foreign languages or by state governments on Indian languages—are wrong, and called for a ban on social media use for those under 16.
Allegations on drugs and policing
Referring to ganja smuggling, he alleged that members linked to TVK were involved even during the previous DMK regime. He urged Chief Minister Vijay to act with an “iron hand” to prevent anti-social elements from gaining protection by associating with ruling parties.
He also questioned why police travelled to Coimbatore to arrest the Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate from Dharapuram constituency, saying it was a matter where notice could have been issued and appearance sought within 24 hours. He said police should not function as a “puppet” of the ruling party.
Treasurer appointment
In a separate statement, Annamalai announced the appointment of Balaji Uthama Ramasamy as the state treasurer of We The Leaders. He said the appointee will coordinate financial administration, regularise income and expenditure accounts, and ensure transparency and accountability in financial operations.
