Two members linked to the so-called “cockroach” organisation—Saurav Das and Asutosh Ranka—were arrested in New Delhi for allegedly violating a prohibition at Jantar Mantar. They were remanded to judicial custody until October 21.
With their custody period set to end on the day, the duo moved the Delhi High Court challenging the judicial custody order. The petition came up for hearing before Justice Subramonium Prasad.
During the hearing, the judge questioned why they had filed a separate case before the scheduled custody proceedings at 2 pm, asking whether they could not wait until then. He also remarked that, at ages 27 and 31, the petitioners could not be termed “Gen Z”.
Justice Prasad noted that the petitioners had already breached the bail bond surety they had signed, and observed that in a democracy, change of government must come through elections. As the court expressed unwillingness to entertain the writ petition, the petitioners withdrew it.
