Traffic slowed to a crawl on Chennai’s GST Road as large numbers of people returned to the city after a four-day holiday stretch.
The rush followed the weekend break along with Ayudha Pooja and Vijayadashami holidays, prompting many travellers from southern districts to head back to Chennai at the same time.
Congestion was reported prominently near Singaperumal Koil on the Chengalpattu stretch of GST Road, with vehicles moving inch by inch.
Commuters faced delays as the traffic build-up intensified during the return journey period.
