A commentary has cautioned Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay against supporting what it calls “cockroach” groups—described as movements that aim their campaigns at elected governments and seek to destabilise administrations.
The writer argues that such tactics are not a limited “trial” that ends in Delhi, and warns that if these methods are not checked now, they could be repeatedly deployed against governments across the country.
Addressing Vijay directly, the piece says he should not fall into what it describes as a trap laid by his alliance partner, the Congress, which it accuses of questioning electoral processes. It claims these groups frequently shift slogans and locations and lack any fixed geographic identity.
The article further alleges that their activity is largely visible on global social media platforms created in the United States, enabling them to target anyone from anywhere. It contrasts this with TVK’s stated effort to win youth support and build a new social base through electoral politics.
Finally, the commentary insists there is no basis for allegations of election malpractice, and notes that even a newspaper that criticised the Chief Election Commissioner did not fault Tamil Nadu’s election. It claims a leader of the “cockroach” group has alleged wrongdoing in Tamil Nadu polls and asserts that Congress has joined hands with such groups.
