Protests by the INDIA alliance in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar drew political heat on Tuesday, as the BJP sought to connect domestic agitations with unrest reported abroad.
The BJP’s attack followed a Fox News digital investigation that claimed 101 organisations were involved in coordinating, organising and intensifying protests across 13 countries. The report alleged that the violence seen during recent protests in France—triggered by issues such as rising prices and poor conditions in schools—had links to youth-led demonstrations in India and other nations.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the opposition, led by Rahul Gandhi, was promoting a “model” of confusion and violence, and argued that the report pointed to foreign organisational links behind such movements. He also referred to what he described as a “red-green protest ecosystem,” interpreting “red” as communist groups and “green” as Islamist groups, and said the report suggested these networks operated in multiple countries.
In a separate statement, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari alleged that an “international investigation report” exposed a Congress conspiracy aimed at unrest and regime change. He claimed Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi met members of the Progressive International on April 10, 2025, and demanded that Congress clarify whether it coordinated with external forces during protests.
Congress, the report noted, has so far remained silent on the allegations raised by the BJP in connection with the Fox News claims.
