A one-day workshop on “Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Crimes and New Challenges in Criminal Investigations” was held at the Tirunelveli Government Law College.
Addressing the programme, Pocso Court Judge Sureshkumar said advocates must strengthen their skills by understanding both legal nuances and technology. He stressed the need to learn the procedures for producing electronic evidence in court and to be aware of certificate-related requirements as clarified through Supreme Court rulings.
The judge noted that the death penalty should be imposed only in the “rarest of rare” cases. He said it is awarded, within the framework of law, for brutal crimes that shock society’s conscience.
Referring to extreme offences, he said crimes such as sexually assaulting one’s own daughter and destroying her life are among the gravest. He also advised students to value the opportunities they have, understand society’s many dimensions along with law, and visit Pocso courts to observe the nature of cases firsthand.
