Retail petrol and diesel prices in India are currently lower than in Dubai, contrary to the common belief that fuel-producing Gulf countries always offer cheaper rates.

A comparison with Dubai in the UAE shows that Delhi’s pump prices are lower for both fuels. As per the latest rates, Dubai’s ‘Special 95’ petrol is priced at Rs 110.04 per litre, while Delhi’s petrol stands at Rs 102.12 — a difference of Rs 7.82. Chennai’s petrol price is Rs 107.76 per litre.

The gap is larger for diesel. Dubai’s diesel is priced at Rs 123.41 per litre, compared with Rs 95.20 in Delhi, making it Rs 28.21 cheaper in the Indian capital. Chennai’s diesel price is Rs 99.55 per litre.

The report attributes the higher Dubai rates to a significant fuel price increase implemented in the UAE from October 1.
