The Tamil Nadu government has issued a government order (GO) increasing the monthly pay of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Rs 1.05 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh.
Along with the salary, MLAs are also provided up to Rs 12,000 towards emergency medical expenses, as per the existing provisions.
The revision follows an announcement made in the Assembly by Chief Minister Vijay, stating that MLAs would be provided a car, with Rs 75,000 earmarked for driver and fuel expenses and Rs 25,000 for appointing an office assistant.
In line with this, the government has decided to provide up to Rs 15 lakh for the car. The amount will be released through district collectors, and the combined components have resulted in the monthly pay being revised to Rs 1.80 lakh.
