Heavy rainfall in the Nilgiris district has led to landslides and trees falling on roads, severely affecting vehicular movement. With travel disruptions reported across hill routes, the district administration has issued a safety advisory for tourists and the public.
District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya asked visitors and residents to remain highly cautious and avoid mountain roads from Mettupalayam to Ooty via Coonoor and Kotagiri. People have also been advised not to visit waterfalls, lakes or other water bodies during the spell of intense rain.
The advisory warns of risks such as landslides, falling trees, rockfalls and sudden flash floods, and urges the public to follow only official instructions from the district administration. Residents are asked to avoid public places and tourist spots unless it is essential, and not to park vehicles under trees.
The Collector also cautioned people not to touch electric poles or wires during rainfall. As a precaution, all vehicle movement, including government bus services, will be stopped from 6.00 pm to 7.00 am.
