The Nilgiris district administration has ordered the closure of all tourist attractions until further notice, citing safety concerns as the northeast monsoon intensifies across Tamil Nadu.

The district, which is under an orange alert, has been receiving heavy rainfall since last night. Officials reported landslides in several locations and warned of potential landslide risks in some areas.

Collector Lakshmi Bhavya issued the directive as very heavy rain warnings have been issued for the Nilgiris for today and tomorrow. The move is aimed at protecting both local residents and tourists.

Continuous rain has also disrupted road traffic, with fallen trees and soil slips reported on key routes. Authorities said the closures are a precautionary step until conditions improve and a fresh announcement is made.
