Pakistan is witnessing a sharp rise in cooking gas prices, with the cost of a household cylinder crossing PKR 10,000—roughly Rs 3,500 in Indian currency.

Reports from Lahore indicate that the country meets about 70% of its cooking gas demand through imports, making domestic supply highly sensitive to external disruptions.

The situation has worsened after the Taftan border was temporarily closed due to the Iran–US conflict, severely affecting overland gas movement.

As a result, shortages have been reported across Pakistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, cooking gas is being sold at around PKR 750 per kilogram, while cylinder prices have surged beyond PKR 10,000.
