Hindu Munnani state president Kadeswara Subramanian on Thursday urged authorities to issue orders to light the Karthigai Deepam on the deepa thoon (lamp pillar) atop Thiruparankundram hill.
Speaking after inaugurating a “12 Jyotirlinga” worship programme organised by Hindu Munnani at the Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Thiruparankundram, he said devotees and members of Hindu organisations would take part in a girivalam on Friday to press the demand.
He said the court’s verdict permitting the lighting of the lamp should be respected, and expressed hope that “several lakhs” would come on November 24 to witness the lamp being lit on the hill.
Referring to an earlier situation where, he alleged, officials faced pressure due to non-compliance with a court order, he said he hoped the present government would not allow such a situation to arise. He also said he expected Chief Minister Vijay to direct the HR&CE department to facilitate the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam.
He further said the local minister Nirmalkumar, elected with votes including those of Hindus in the Thiruparankundram constituency, should reconsider his stance, warning that otherwise it could become difficult for him to continue in politics in the future.
