Tamil Nadu Congress functionaries are facing growing pressure from the party’s central leadership to mobilise a large contingent for an upcoming INDIA bloc rally in Delhi.

The rally, scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan, is being organised to protest the special intensive revision of the electoral roll. A circular from the Delhi leadership has reportedly instructed the Tamil Nadu unit to ensure 1,000 participants, with each district expected to bring at least 50 workers.

District-level leaders say the directive has created practical and financial difficulties. According to some office-bearers, train tickets are not available, and the Railways has not permitted booking a separate coach, forcing them to consider air travel.

With flight fares rising, leaders said the expectation that district heads should bear the costs of tickets, accommodation and food for dozens of workers is unreasonable. Some district chiefs are said to be reluctant to participate, with a few reportedly questioning why they accepted the posts amid repeated calls for protests in Delhi.
