Senior leaders express displeasure
New Delhi: Discussions in Delhi BJP circles have intensified around K. Annamalai, leader of “We the Leaders” and former Tamil Nadu BJP president, following a recent statement he issued against the BJP. Party seniors are said to be upset, questioning why he would take such a stand.
Questions over his shift in tone
According to the same circles, senior leaders point out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier backed Annamalai’s “En Mann; En Makkal” yatra, and Modi had also praised him in Parliament. Against that backdrop, they say, his current posture has caused disappointment.
What sources say Amit Shah told a senior leader
A senior leader who raised the issue with Amit Shah was reportedly told that developments were in line with what Shah had said earlier. Shah is quoted as suggesting that Annamalai may be facing some financial risk and that his criticism of the party could be aimed at protecting himself.
Ram Madhav’s visit and report timeline
Amid reports that Ram Madhav, appointed as an observer for the Tamil Nadu BJP, has already submitted a ground report, people close to Shah deny that any such report has been filed yet. Delhi BJP sources say Madhav is expected to visit all districts and submit his report in January, and that Nainar Nagendran will continue as the Tamil Nadu BJP president until then.
