Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by former Telangana chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, has emerged as one of India’s wealthiest regional parties, according to its audited statement filed with the Election Commission for 2025-26.
The report places the party’s total assets at Rs 1,509 crore, with Rs 1,431 crore held as bank deposits. The party is said to earn Rs 97.76 crore annually as interest from these deposits. It also reported buildings and immovable assets worth Rs 66.26 crore and loans amounting to Rs 11.17 crore.
During the year, BRS recorded an income of Rs 114 crore, including Rs 16.44 crore from corporate and individual donations. However, election campaigning and related expenses were reported at Rs 162 crore, resulting in a revenue deficit of Rs 48 crore for 2025-26. In 2024-25, its income and expenditure were both reported at Rs 180 crore.
The audited figures also highlight a sharp rise in income during the period when BRS was in power in Telangana. In 2022-23 and 2023-24, the party reported a combined income of Rs 1,423.18 crore, with large surpluses in both years.
The report notes that BRS was among the parties that received substantial funds through the electoral bonds scheme, which was later struck down by the Supreme Court. It also mentions that the Congress government in Telangana has alleged corruption in irrigation projects executed during the BRS regime and has set up committees to examine some projects.
